In many mythologies, regardless of the cultural circle and geographical latitude, an egg appears as an element of pregenesis, from the Hindu macrocosm in the form of the cosmic egg Brahmad to the Egyptian figure of the Great Mouth, who hatched from the egg and broke the silence of nonexistence with a scream. Academic language to this day cherishes the Latin phrase "ab ovo", i.e. from the beginning, which came from the established order of the Roman feast, which each time began with an egg, ab ovo, and ended with an apple, ad malum. So let's start from the beginning, with egg tempera. Anna Rutkowska's starting point is a reflection full of irony and seriousness on artistic matter and on the paradoxes of autotelic art, which does not perform tasks external to art. Autotelic art is not a tool in the fight for social emancipation, an illustration of processes taking place in the world, it is not used to solve problems other than artistic ones, the purpose, cause and meaning of art understood in this way is itself and only itself. Autotelic art answers the questions posed by matter itself, and meanings are generated by the material. Anna Rutkowska uses egg tempera, one of the painting techniques that requires chicken yolks used as a dye binder.In his art, he evokes new potentials parallel to life, in the dummy world of artistic spectacle he brings to life artificial entities, curoids, they hatch from egg tempera in the space of a work of art. Art cannot withstand its autotelic nature, it bends to the needs and obligations of a cognitive and ethical nature. The image of a headless hen is the result of the artist's inner conflict and disagreement with the systemic enslavement and exploitation of industrialized poultry. Birds barely able to walk on the ground with stunted stumps instead of wings are the opposite of bird flight, actual and metaphorical freedom, and a faded echo of the majestic domination of the dinosaurs from which birds evolved. Some chickens are headless: reduced by food producers to the role of mindless eggworms, in the artist's understanding they refer to the situation of an individual in a system focused on expansive production and mindless consumption of produced goods, and even information generated by artificial intelligence. The exhibition includes paintings created on canvas and paper using the egg tempera technique, as well as figures of artificial birds emitting a terrifying war cry with which the artist, who is also a karate competitor, equips artificial chickens.
